Here are some of our frequently asked questions about our tours. If you do not find an answer to your question here, please get in touch and we shall do all we can to help.
Where do the tours start?
Our tours begin in Linlithgow, West Lothian which is just 20 minutes from Edinburgh and 30 minutes from Glasgow by train.
Unless we have arranged a hotel pickup, we will meet you at Linlithgow Train station, it’s a small station and we are easy to spot as we will have blue or red jackets on with Mary’s Meanders on them and a big sign!
We will be standing in the main car park which is the side you disembark from if coming from Edinburgh.
We are based here and by starting from here it saves you spending the first hour of your tour in traffic. Plus it is at the heart of Outlander filming locations.
How do I get to Linlithgow?
Travelling to Linlithgow is easy whether you are driving, trip sharing or using public transport. Here are some helpful links with detail information so we can meet up soon.
Can I be collected from my hotel?
We do suggest getting the train but if you do require a hotel pick up please contact us by using the contact form and we can see if it is possible.
Where can I buy tickets and how can I pay?
Our Shared Tours are bookable online. Please contact us for Private Tour information. These are invoiced via PayPal.
Will the tours go ahead if it is raining?

We have a Citroen Grand Picassco, and we use Ford 8 and 15 seater minibuses.
How early do I need to arrive for a tour?
You don’t need to get there too early. The guides never start the tour on the dot of the listed starting time. If you are delayed and need to contact the guide please text 07818 687066.
How will I recognise the Mary’s Meanders guide?
All guides will either be wearing a red rain jacket, Outlander t-shirt or have a badge. Both have Mary’s Meanders on them. They will also have a list with your name on it.
What should I wear?
Please wear comfy shoes that you will be happy to walk in. Some of the locations we visit on the Outlander location tour have steep staircases, heels not advised!
We would also suggest having a waterproof jacket with you as we will walk rain or shine.
Do you offer Outlander tours in French, Spanish, Italian, German?
We do have French and German Guides but sadly no Spanish or Italian at this time.
Are the tours wheelchair accessible?
Outlander Locations Tour – Many of the locations have uneven terrain and have cobblestones. For Historic Environment Scotland sites please review their Access Guide here. For more information please contact us.
Linlithgow Walking Tour – The route contains a few inclines and uneven terrain, and they last for at least 90 minutes. Despite this, they are all manageable by wheelchair as long as one is accompanied by an able-bodied carrier.

The Linlithgow walking tours start from outside The Star and Garter Hotel’s front entrance.
