Mixing Kilts and Innovation!

September 26, 2016 By //  by Mary's Meanders Team

Last year we attended the launch of Visit Scotland’s Year of Innovation, Architecture and Design  where we were encouraged to think of ways that our business could embrace this theme.  It was at this event we spoke with Craft Scotland and picked up a flyer for The Border Kilt School and immediately thought there’s potential for collaboration here.

We contacted Rachel from the kilt school and asked if she was interested in putting on a workshop in Linlithgow where we are based. So on a Saturday afternoon in February 2016 we had over 20 people come along and hear about the history of Tartan and a brief description of how to make a kilt.

Two of the ladies who enjoyed the day so much they felt inspired to sign up for the course and have now just completed their first kilt! They are about to start a second course so they can develop their skills further and help to keep this craft alive.

We are so proud to have been a small part of this story and it all came from thinking about how to be innovative.  Now to start thinking about 2017’s theme – Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology!
