Is Scotland a good place to be a solo traveller? Yes absolutely it is.
The locals are friendly, there is a good transport system and its gorgeous. You do of course need to be sensible, don’t put yourself into any uncomfortable or dangerous situations and keep an eye on your belongings. Just like you would back home.
We have hosted many female solo travellers over the years and they have had a great experience. When you book a tour with Mary’s Meanders you can be assured that we are here for you during the whole duration of your trip. If it is possible we will join you for dinner some evenings, facilitate meeting up with other visitors and we are happy to join you for days or nights out too!

This summer many of our clients stayed in Linlithgow, the birthplace of Mary Queen of Scots, where we are based. It’s a town of about 14,000 just 20 minutes from Edinburgh, 30 minutes from Glasgow by train. It is full to brim with history and heritage and has great restaurants, shops and the accommodation is excellent too. It’s the perfect base for a solo traveller we feel.

2017 is going to be an exciting year to visit Scotland – The Year of History, Heritage and Archaeology so what are you waiting for? Get in touch and see how we can make your dream holiday come true. Do you want to see where your ancestors came from or to follow in Jamie and Claire’s footsteps? Whatever your reason for visiting Scotland is, we can help.
Remember our motto is “Arrive a visitor, leave a friend”.
