Yesterday Anne and I went to visit Paul MacDonald from MacDonald Armouries. Paul got in touch a few weeks ago as he was interested in working with us. We went along not quite knowing what to expect as neither of us had been to an armoury before but left buzzing from head to toe!
Paul is one of those people you could listen to all day – his passion for his craft and the enthusiasm for the stories behind the weapons is contagious. If it wasn’t for another appointment we had after I think we would have stayed all day. We learned about the work that goes into the custom made weapons and why its worth waiting for. The demand for his work his very high and deservedly so!
We are delighted to be able to offer visits to the armoury where you will see Paul and his apprentice Eric at work and hear about the many services they provide – including weapon restoration, historical weapons consultancy and about extras work on a well known TV show!
As we left Anne and I both agreed that Paul has the #ScotSpirit that the new Visit Scotland campaign promotes and this inspired us to start work on a new tour with that theme. What a great way to spend a day meeting people who have that spirit flowing through them and want to share it with others! We will be launching this tour in time for the 2016 season.
